George Damil & Isah Ibrahim on FCT. (FCT indigenous voice most be respected)

History has shown that the present day FCT was totally an agrarian community in the past before it was made the capital city of Nigeria the Gbagyi's are the predominant race, others includes Gedde,Basa,Koro and Gwandara, their major occupation is farming, hunting, blacksmithing, potter and craftsmanship, but all of these were truncated by the fast growing urbanization of the capital city. These citizens have their rights to peaceful protest when their rights are trampled upon they do not have any other ancestral home but FCT where the were met and suddenly forced to transform like the speed of light to modernity thereby abandoning their inherited traditional way of life and without proper support from the federal government. The peanuts given to them as compensation was never enough,I know we love to live in FCT being the capital city of Nigeria, let take out sentiments and look at things the spirit of fairness, equity and justice, the parents of the present day indigenes were said to have being compensated in the 70s with small houses and limited land space without education, enlightenment or even vocational training aside their traditional skills at that time. Education would have enable their traditional parents envisage the future that sooner or later there will be little or no farmlands and forest for their traditional businesses due to urbanization also they would have gotten the knowledge to take an indices of their family multiplying effect as to know the importance of managing the then so called compensation given to them. With education the wouldn't have sold or exchange their properties for some alcohol to anyone but to utilize it for the benefit of their children and great grand children. These uneducated Nigerians at that time were outsmarted by some fellow educated Nigerians who came from other part of the country to settle on their soil, they made sure that they bought, obtained by force or even dupe these uneducated indigenes taking advantage of their level of education and poverty hence leaving them to little or nothing. Now to the present day, having lost about 80% of what they owned to non-indigenes and are confronted with the present realities, the federal government has still not looked into their predicament to date, most of their communities lack basic social amenities and infrastructures such as electricity, roads, portable water, hospitals, schools, vocational training centres and empowerments scheme etc. No consistent scholarship scheme from the government or private sectors as well as those among them that strive to graduate from schools got no special employment as to encourage others. Political setting in our 18years of democracy, the indigenous people of FCT have been denied their right of been appointed as FCT minister or even governor which is an indigene of that state or even alternatively grant them mayorship, but either of these is yet to considered by the government, despite their tolerance, hospitality, peaceful and law abiding characteristics. Please without sentiment imagine or take this scenario to your home town or village and see, would you say your people are fairly treated by the federal government...? Don't forget if it gets hot today in the capital city we have our various states to run to and enjoy our aboriginal or indigene, what about them...? Where will the run to as enjoy such privileges.
